When I first started my project on the way station, we (Dr. Ellen, "Lishack Films", and me) filmed this video and posted it to YouTube. My mom filmed that little clip near the end, while we were searching for milkweed. Also, of course, you HAD to see my little sister in the clip. Seriously little sis', WHY.
When they made the video, it was definitely not my present age, of course (don't want you guys to get the wrong idea, heh-heh). It was a long while ago. Same with the presentation. OH. WAIT. Shout out to my hope-to-be-coming-out-soon-book of "The Last Butterfly"! Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy.

Erin Cheek, when in third grade, began a research fellow project to lead our school in planting a way station for Monarch Butterflies. Their survival and population are being threatened as the habitat they usually stop at in their long migration. There is many threats to the monarchs.
1.Habitat is being destroyed. Mall shops are being built on the monarchs flowers. They are was logging in Mexico.
2. More frequent weather extremes, for example, there were many droughts in Texas.
3. Parasites can kill the monarchs easily when the monarchs are weak.
4. GMO soy and corn are replacing meadows with milkweed
Baden Academy fourth graders studied plant anatomy and life cycle as their milkweed plants, germinating in the media lab and in milk jugs in the sister's garden across from the gym, began to sprout and grow.
If you are interested in planting a milkweed way station at home, send me an email to Erin through the [email protected], and she will send seeds home in an envelope.
